Join me this week for a look Behind the Skeins and into the daily life of a yarn dyer. Dave is building a table, the dogs went to a luau, and we are testing dyes to find the perfect depth of color for you. Let's take a look!
We are test dying a few different depths of shades. Because we are dying only one mini of each we can use these 16 oz jars to keep the colors separate and use the space more efficiently. We can dye 15 colors at once this way. Today we are looking for a murky, moody, teal and a yummy plummy.
This is my new Stick and Stitch that I designed. It is a great portable way for me to work on a notions pouch while in waiting rooms.
Dave is working on building a new four person pine wood table for the cabin. This is a free Ana White Woodworking pattern. The four insets will all point inward to the center of the table with a nice heavy frame casing it all in. We will probably stain it a dark brown to match the other furniture in the house, with a wax finish.
FDR State Park holds a Dog Luau every year. This pool is a naturally spring fed and is drained at the end of swimming season. But before it is completely closed down they let the dogs in to have some fun! This is the 13th year they have hosted a luau and Petco even sponsored this year. They gave out some dog treats and toys. Remy was gone the moment we got there to play in the pool and with anyone that would play with him. His sister Mally, on the other hand, is not into swimming so much. It was a hot day; she eventually found a shallow part of the pool that she could lay in about two inches of water and cool down.
Thanks for joining me this week while I show you some behind the scenes of what it is like here at Southern Skeins.
Happy making friends 🧶✨
