Apparently the theme around here this week is:
WAIT AND SEE.
Wait for the newsletter to send.
Wait for the lemons to turn yellow.
Wait for Remy’s thyroid numbers to behave.
Wait for 100 wet skeins of yarn to dry so I can find out whether I’m a genius or have made a terrible mistake.
Patience has never really been my thing.
So this is going great. 😂
📧 Apparently You Have to Actually Schedule the Email
Last week’s A Little Unraveled was late.
And there’s a very good reason for that.
I thought I scheduled it.
I did not.
You know when you do something and you’re so completely convinced you did it that you don’t even think to check?
Yep. That.
Then, once I realized Issue 003 hadn’t actually gone out, my email service decided that would be an excellent time to have a hiccup with sending.
Of course it did.
So A Little Unraveled became… a little unraveled. 😂
Issue 003 eventually made its way into your inbox a day late.
Better late than never, I say.
Besides, if this newsletter ever starts running like a finely tuned corporate publication, I think we’ll all know something has gone terribly wrong.
🍋 Are You SURE That’s a Lemon Tree?
A few years ago, Dave and I planted a Meyer lemon tree.
And then we waited.
And waited.
And eventually…
FRUIT!
We were so excited.
Except there was one teeny problem.
They were green.
Dave and I started looking at the tree.
Then looking at each other.
Then looking at the tree again.
Did we accidentally buy a lime tree? 😂
Apparently neither of us had stopped to consider that lemons don’t magically appear on the tree bright yellow.
So we waited.
Not patiently.
Eventually, they turned yellow and confirmed that yes, we did in fact own a lemon tree.
Well… HERE WE GO AGAIN.
This year the tree is absolutely LOADED.
There are lemons everywhere.
Big ones. Little ones. Clusters of them.
And every single one is… GREEN.
So we’re once again participating in the annual Eddy Family Lemon Watch.
🍋 COME ON, LEMONS. YOU CAN DO IT. 🍋
Any of y’all grow citrus or other fruit trees? Hit reply and tell me your secrets.
Should I be doing something while we’re waiting? Fertilizing? Pruning? Talking encouragingly to them every morning?
Or is the answer simply: Jenna, leave the poor tree alone and learn some patience.
I have a feeling it’s that last one.
🐶 Remy vs. His Thyroid
Meanwhile, Remy, the Southern Skeins Dog, has been having his own little adventure.
Our buddy is 8 now, and recently the vet discovered his thyroid was, in her words…“lower than low.” Well. That’s reassuring. 😂
So Remy started thyroid medicine.
A month later, we went back to have his levels checked.
Now they’re too high.
Okay.
Adjust the medicine.
Back to the vet again.
Still too high.
So we’re still working with the vet to get his medicine and numbers where they need to be.
But here’s the really good part.
Our buddy is back. ❤️
He’s running around again.
He’s got energy.
He’s acting like his old goofy self.
And I don’t think we realized just how much he’d slowed down until suddenly… he hadn’t.
Seeing our Remy running around and feeling good again makes all the trips back to the vet and this thyroid-number roller coaster completely worth it.
Now we just need his thyroid to get the memo.
🎨 What Do You Do With 100 Patriotic Minis?
And finally, let’s head back to the dye pots.
Because I recently discovered something in the studio.
Approximately 100 sparkle minis.
All dyed the same colorway.
Red. White. Blue.
Which is fantastic if the entire knitting world suddenly decides it needs Fourth of July yarn.
For everything else?
Maybe not so much. 😂
And I certainly wasn’t going to let 100 perfectly good sparkle minis sit around waiting for next July.
So… Into the dye pots they went.
I overdyed them into deep, moody shades, and right now they’re all wet and drying.
Which means I have absolutely no idea how this experiment has actually turned out yet.
Wet yarn is a liar.
It can come out of the dye pot looking absolutely incredible and then dry into something completely different.
So right now I’m somewhere between:
Ohhhh, these are going to be GOOD. and What have I done? 😂 Cross your fingers for me. 🤞
If this works, I’ll show y’all the finished transformation next week. And if it doesn’t…Well. I’ll probably show you that too.
So that’s life around here this week.
The newsletter was late.
The lemons are green.
Remy’s thyroid can’t decide what number it wants to be.
And 100 sparkle minis are currently drying while I try very hard not to hover over them every five minutes.
Apparently nothing around here operates on my preferred timeline.
I’m starting to think maybe I’m not actually in charge. 😂
