I feel like everything around here this week is either being dyed, cut, printed, sorted, recorded, growing where it isn’t supposed to grow… or apparently not growing at all.
So, you know.
Just another perfectly normal week around here. 😂
🕵️♀️ Jack Has Officially Taken Over
Y’all.
I am elbow deep in Jack the Ripper Ultimate kits.
And when I say we’re making these kits, I mean we are MAKING these kits.
I’ve been cutting, printing and sorting thousands of individual pieces that will eventually become all the goodies inside the Ultimate boxes.
Thousands.
There are little piles of Jack everywhere.
And that’s before we even talk about the yarn.
We are dyeing constantly right now, and the yarn drying room is pretty much always at capacity.
Thank goodness for the yarn drying room.
Seriously. Best decision ever.
Every time I walk in there and see racks and racks of yarn drying, I’m thankful all over again that we’re not trying to figure out where the heck to put all of it.
And while all of that is happening, we’ve also been working on a secret surprise that will be delivered by email during Serial Skeins.
I’m not telling you what it is yet. 😇
But we’re trying to make this year’s experience even more immersive, and I am having entirely too much fun with it.
🎙️ Meanwhile, Dave Is Finding His Inner Brit
Dave has started recording the Jack videos.
This has led to an unexpected production decision:
What accent should Dave use?
He’s been trying them out and has apparently settled on a British accent.
There’s just one small problem.
I hate to tell the man this…
But I’m pretty sure his British accent is Scottish. 😂
I’m not saying anything.
He’s happy.
He’s recording.
Things are getting done.
We’re just going to pretend.
If Jack starts talking about haggis, I’ll intervene.
🌻 Has Anyone Seen My Sunflowers?
Let’s leave the studio for a minute and talk about my garden.
Last year I had a sunflower garden.
This year I apparently have a Black-eyed Susan garden.
Don’t get me wrong. They’re beautiful.
But the sunflowers?
Gone.
They didn’t come back!
I apparently thought planting sunflowers once meant I had signed some sort of lifetime sunflower agreement with Mother Nature.
Garden people, help me out here.
Do I actually need to plant new sunflower seeds every year? Did the birds eat all my seeds? Did I do something wrong?
Hit reply and tell me what I need to do because I would very much like my sunflowers back. 😂
Meanwhile, my rose bush has decided the word bush is merely a suggestion.
It’s now a climber.
I didn’t buy a climbing rose.
At least I don’t think I bought a climbing rose.
But apparently the rose has made its own decision about what it wants to be when it grows up.
Honestly, I respect the confidence.
🖨️ The Great 3D Printer Debate
I’m still having an absolute blast with 3D printing.
And now I have opinions.
I’m honestly not sure whether I like the Snapmaker U1 or the Bambu better yet.
They’re both really good at different things.
The Flashforge?
Sorry, little buddy.
You’re definitely sitting in third place. 😂
The Snapmaker has mostly gotten over its early drama, except for one absolutely ridiculous issue:
It does not like white filament.
More specifically, it doesn’t like its OWN white filament.
Give it white filament from another brand?
Fine.
Snapmaker’s own white filament?
Absolutely not.
Why?
I have no idea.
I’ve decided 3D printers are basically toddlers. You can give them two things that appear completely identical and they’ll happily accept one while throwing the other across the room.
Go figure.
But I’m still printing like crazy, and I’ve got some new yarn bowls coming soon that I’m really excited about.
I may have created a monster with this whole 3D-printing thing.
I’m having way too much fun.
🧶 What I’m Making: The World’s Slowest Log Cabin Blanket
I’m still working on my log cabin blanket.
And I need you to understand something about me.
I am a slow knitter.
I love knitting.
I’m just apparently in no particular hurry to finish anything. 😂
For those of you who come to our monthly Zoom Knit Nights, you may remember the Shalnket we worked on.
Well…
I finished mine!
🎉🎉🎉
There’s just one teeny tiny detail.
That was our project from…
two years ago.
Yes.
I know.
Meanwhile some of you probably finished yours, made another one, knit three sweaters, crocheted a blanket and learned Tunisian crochet while I was still over here plugging away.
But you know what?
FINISHED IS FINISHED.
I’m claiming the victory.
So now I’m working on my log cabin blanket at my usual lightning-fast pace.
I’ll update y’all sometime in 2028. 😂
📺 What I’m Watching:
Silo
Okay, we need another Silo update.
The latest episode is FINALLY starting to look a little more like the Silo I remember from the books.
We have the silo drillings!
FINALLY.
So now I’m thinking…
Okay.
Maybe there’s hope.
Maybe they’re actually going to bring this thing back around.
I’m still confused by some of the characters because they’ve changed enough from the books that I keep having to mentally rearrange everyone.
Wait. Who are you supposed to be?
But I’m feeling better about where they’re going with the story than I was last week.
I’m still watching.
I’m still questioning things.
And I’m still yelling at the television.
So basically nothing has changed. 😂
And that’s all the craziness around here this week.
Jack has taken over the studio, Dave is somewhere between London and Scotland, the sunflowers have disappeared, my rose bush is apparently trying to escape, the 3D printers have opinions about filament, and I finally finished a two-year-old knitting project.
Everything seems perfectly normal.
